Detail from my painting

I had my first foray into painting outdoors this year. It was exhilarating. And it was challenging, but in a good way. I think I’m hooked for life.

I said to my husband, “It’s harder than you think.” He said, “It can’t be harder than I think, because I think it’s impossible.”

Your eyes and brain see every blade of grass and a nearly 360 degree view. So you’ve got to edit and simplify. I painted the morning sun illuminating the exterior of the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio. Best advice… SQUINT.
